Fasting Basics

SIMPLY STATED, BIBLICAL FASTING IS REFRAINING FROM FOOD FOR A SPIRITUAL PURPOSE.


According to the Bible, there are three duties of every Christian: give, pray and fast.


Biblical fasting takes a lot of discipline and strength—strength which you can only receive from God. Your private discipline will bring you rewards in Heaven, says Matthew 6. When you give God your first through fasting, prayer and giving at the beginning of the year, you set the course for the entire year.

Why Fast?

The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It also enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives. Remember, your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

Is there a dream inside you that only He can make possible?

Do you desire a deeper, more intimate and powerful relationship with the Lord?

We encourage you to seek the Lord in prayer and let your decisions about your biblical fasting come from Him. Ask the Lord to show you areas to target during your time of fasting and prayer. We believe that, as we pray and seek God and give Him our best at the first of the year, He will bless our ENTIRE year (Matthew 6:33)!

Types of Fasts

Complete Fast

Drink only liquids (you establish the number of days).


The Daniel Fast

Eat no meat, no sweets and no bread. Drink water and juice. Eat fruits and vegetables.

3-Day Fast

This fast can be a Full Fast, Daniel Fast or give up at least one item of food.


Partial Fast

A partial fast is from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm or from sun up to sundown. You can select from three types of fasting —a Full Fast, Daniel Fast or give up at least one item of food.

Remember that it is the attitude of a heart sincerely seeking Him to which God responds with a blessing (Isaiah 58, Jeremiah 14:12, 1 Corinthians 8:8). May God greatly bless you as you fast!

Why 21 Days?

In Daniel 10:2-13, Daniel prayed & fasted for 21 days, during which time a spiritual battle was fought. After the 21 days their was a breakthrough God answered him.

If we really want to bring the victory of Christ into our families, church, community and nation, We must fast and pray! 

Ways you and your family can be involved in the 21 Day Fast

Individually

  1. Fast one day a week for three consecutive weeks (liquids only)
  2. Fast one meal a day for 21 days
  3. Fast for a three-day period (liquids only)
  4. Participate in a Daniel Fast (Fruits and Vegetables only) – 7 Days
  5. Participate in a Daniel Fast (Fruits and Vegetables only) – 21 Days
  6. Fast each Wednesday with us and set apart Wednesday evenings from 7 – 8:15pm for corporate prayer.
  7. Use the 21 day prayer guide and pray with us corporately for a breakthrough


PLEASE NOTE: If you are on medications or have a serious medical condition, please consult your physician before fasting.

As a Family

  1. Participate in a Daniel Fast (Fruits and Vegetables only)
  2. Challenge each of your children to participate in some way. For younger children, may they could give up sweets for the next 21 days!
  3. Fast coffee or tea
  4. Take a break from social media
  5. Fast going out to eat – instead every time you would have normally gone out to eat, give it as an offering to missions, over and above your normal tithes.
  6. Spend 15 minutes each night together reading the Bible, praying, and taking communion.
  7. Spend time Sunday around the altar praying together as a family
  8. Use the 21 day prayer guide and pray with us corporately for a breakthrough


Remember, the key to fasting is not giving up something you wouldn’t normally do. Rather, it is giving up something that denies your flesh satisfaction and then dedicating that time to God in devotion and prayer.
