HOW TO PRAY

One of the most common questions we receive after someone receives Christ is "How do I pray?"  The thing that we have to remember is that praying is not complicated.  At its most basic level, prayer is talking to God.  The Psalmist said it like this:  "In the morning, O Lord, I lay my requests before you and I wait in expectation."  Truth is, our Heavenly Father wants us to pray regularly and often.  Jesus modeled the importance of having an active and intimate prayer life on many occassions.  He even went so far as to tell us exactly how we ought to pray for maximum effectiveness. Below are a few guides to help you as you begin to spend regular time in prayer with God.

The Hour That Changes The World – By Dick Eastman

Dick Eastman is the International President of Every Home for Christ, headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado. With his book, The Hour that Changes the World, he has developed a practical way for ministers and laypeople to pray for an hour a day with amazing results. Dick Eastman suggests  that one divide an hour into 12 periods of 5 minutes.   After 5 minutes you change to another form of prayer.  This is a great tool to help a person who has never prayed for 1 hour.

This pdf link gives a simple guide on how to pray each of the five minutes.

Could you not tarry one Hour - Dr. Larry Lea

Dr. Lea uses the Lord’s Prayer as a model for praying one hour.  He divides the prayer into 6 sections for one hour of prayer.  This is a good guide for those who have been in church for some time as they would be familiar with the 7 Hebrew names for God and the Lord's Prayer

The Temple Prayer Guide – Dr. Yonggi Cho

Dr. Yonggi Cho explains how important it is to have an organized focus to your prayer if you are going to pray for an extended period of time.  Dr. Cho’s Korean church has a membership of over 1,000,000 people.  The denomination is Assemblies of God so this guide has a charismatic bent…but it is good for those who have a personal hunger and intimacy with God.  This is a 15 page document that was made from a sermon…some mispronunciations are present.
